Gardiner Library is pleased to participate in the Hudson Valley Community Air Network (HVCAN), a regional community air monitoring initiative created by the Center for Environmental Sciences and Humanities (CESH) at Bard College in partnership with JustAir and sponsored by Ulster County.

As part of Ulster County's effort to establish a robust countywide air quality monitoring network, 17 PurpleAir sensors are being installed throughout the region to provide residents with access to local, real-time air quality information.

Through this collaboration, Gardiner Library has installed an outdoor air quality monitor that continuously measures local air conditions. Data collected by the sensor is publicly available through the JustAir network (App) and website, helping residents stay informed about air quality in our community.

Libraries serve as trusted community institutions, and participation in this project helps make important environmental information freely accessible to everyone. By hosting a monitor, Gardiner Library is supporting:

Public health awareness

Environmental stewardship

Community science and education

Greater access to local, real-time air quality data

The air quality monitor and JustAir App are being provided through the Hudson Valley Community Air Network initiative with support from Ulster County's Department of the Environment. The Library's role is to provide a suitable location, access to power and Wi-Fi, and basic assistance should the monitor require attention.

We are excited to contribute to this growing network and to provide our community with another valuable source of local environmental information.
