Dear Library Supporter,                                                                          11/21/2019
As residents of Gardiner you should be very proud.

The Gardiner Library, compared to four libraries in the RCLS system of similar size:
  • Has 11% more library card holders (69% of Gardiner residents)
  • Circulated 6,000 items over the average number of items circulated
  • Is above the average for number of items checked out per capita
  • Uses half the number of full time equivalent employees
  • Receives 61% of the average amount from tax dollars ($229,000 vs. $445,000)
Recently you voted on Proposition 414 and it passed with a two to one margin. We are grateful and humbled by your support. This money will be used to increase our budget to buy books and other items, expand programming, save for emergencies and manage the upkeep and maintenance of our physical space.

Your generosity allowed the library to operate without an increase in public funding for 11 years. However, staffing and operating costs continue to grow and, in order to maintain and expand our resources, we still count on your private donations to preserve the Gardiner Library as an exceptional community resource.

Please understand thirty percent of the library’s annual budget is raised through fundraising. Today, we ask you to support our efforts with a tax-deductible gift to the Gardiner Library’s 2019 Annual Appeal fundraiser.

2019 Highlights:
  • Organized our first teen Battle of the Books team that competed against 27 other libraries
  • Held regular community Reiki sessions, Slow Jams, Ukulelean Club meetings, and Repair Cafes
  • Offered free math, science, English and social studies tutoring and tech support
  • Provided free AARP tax aide help and hosted the AARP Smart Driver Education class, an Alzheimer’s seminar, and is the home to the Gardiner Senior Resource Committee
  • Provided a free meeting space for Girl Scout and Brownie Troops and other civic groups from our area as well as a space to exhibit local artwork
Because of your generosity, the Gardiner Library will continue to offer high-quality programs and resources to more people, improving the quality of life in your community. We thank you for making it possible.

Sincerely,

Nicole Lane, Library Director and
Gardiner Library Board of Trustees
