Get a Library Card


Apply and receive your library card by coming into the library during regular business hours or apply here and a librarian will be in contact within 48 hours to scheule pick-up or delivery of your card(s).

To obtain an adult or juvenile resident library card, one must be a resident of the Gardiner Library service area (pay Gardiner town taxes) or a resident of New Paltz (pay New Paltz school district taxes). Applicants must be 5 years old or entering kindergarten.

Land owners, second home owners and business owners in the Gardiner Library service area, and employees of a local business, may obtain a “non-resident supporter” library card. This card entitles the user to the same privileges as an “adult resident” card.

Ulster county residents who live outside the library’s service area and want to use the library because of convenience, programming, etc…can receive a “ulster courtesy” library card which allows users to check out 10 items at a time. They are not allowed to use the system’s direct access.

Seasonal renters, vacationers and visitors who are in the library’s service area for four weeks or more can obtain a “temporary” library card which allows the users to check out 10 items at a time. They are not allowed to use the system’s direct access.

Visitors (family or friends) and vacationers here less than four weeks can obtain a “visitor” library card which allows one item to be checked out at a time and no direct access.
